Contractor FDC have nearly completed the redevelopment of Macquarie University’s Central Courtyard precinct. It will reopen in 2021 in the form of a revitalised and replanted Central Courtyard surrounded by one existing, and three new buildings that have been designed to be lighter and brighter than their predecessors, creating a new vibrancy and dynamism for all to enjoy.

A first for Macquarie University, two brand new student residential towers with up to 341 beds will be built. The design caters for contemporary student study and living needs. Given the proximity to Central Courtyard buildings and plaza-facing retail areas, the student accommodation is set to encourage night-time and student-led use of the new development.

ULTRAfloor was chosen by FDC as the preferred structural solution for the two student accommodation buildings as it offered substantial time and cost benefits over the originally proposed fat plate PT scheme. Not only were ULTRAfloor awarded the design and construct horizontal package, they were awarded the supply and installation of the AFS wall system and all formwork which provide a FDC with a one stop D&C shop for a structural solution.

To meet the specific challenges of this project ULTRAfloor engineered ULTRAfloor 250M-1270 and 250C-1270 systems for the slab infill which spanned 9.6m between an AFS Logicwall system for the intertenancy walls.
